Why I didn't vote from Trump Part 2
I have not voted for Trump I think 5 times now. Because of the 3 presidential elections and a caucus and the primary. I think maybe they didn't have a caucus or primary for his first reelection campaign.
In 2020, I wrote a blog post about Why I'm Not Voting from Trump.
Some of my reasons for not voting for him in 2020 seem unimpressive now. They pale in comparison to things that happened after that, specifically the storming of the Capitol, and how Trump put pressure on Pence to not certify the election.
1. One of my reasons was that he commuted the sentence of Roger Stone. If that was yuck, that pales in comparison to Joe Biden pardoning his son Hunter. And it also pales in comparison to Trump pardoning the people convicted of invading the Capitol on Jan 6. So the communication of sentence of Roger Stone sounds kind of innocuous now. Things are getting worse, unfortunately.
2. One of my reasons for not voting for him was the national debt, and how I perceived the libertarians were going to take that more seriously. In 2025 I am pleasantly surprised at how the second Trump administration is taking this seriously, and they are trying to cut federal costs.
3. Public demeanor/character - this is probably the biggest reason I chose to not vote for him again. He is dishonest in his statements, and treats others like trash.
4. In the previous blog post, I listed reasons I would vote FOR Trump, and the first one was that he is Pro-police. I believe that to be false now, because of the pardoning of the people who invaded the Capitol, while the police were trying to defend it. Trump is perhaps just Pro-whoever is loyal to him and what he's trying to accomplish.
So for the 2024 election..
Why I did not vote for Trump
1. He's not a person of consistent moral character. I can't support someone who supports overturning an election and who lies all the time. There is a lot of lying in politics, but it feels like a whole different level.
Really, I don't think there needs to be any other reason.
Why I did not vote for Biden in 2024
1. He wasn't on the ballot
Kamala Harris replaced him. I wouldn't have voted for him anyway. I really think he did his party a disservice by running again, since his aging process had reached a point that was impairing his ability to do the job, in my opinion.
Why I did not vote for Harris in 2024
1. Disagree on the Issues (I am a Republican after all)
2. In interviews, her response was often the "word salad", where we aren't sure what she was even communicating. This came across as being evasive.
I did consider voting for her, but she seemed to do nothing to reach out to Republicans. Her rallies seemed to consist of just comments about social issues - abortion, sexual identity, and vague things like hope and progress. I didn't hear a lot about how our country would be improved. I felt that she was socially awkward as well. She didn't accept as many interviews as Trump did - it seemed to take her a long time to prepare. Trump was everywhere in the media. It was probably that her candidacy was decided last second, and there was not enough time to build momentum. She also was obviously tied to the Biden administration, which was not very popular, and she didn't differentiate herself from that.
Who did I vote for
I will leave some info to mystery, but yes I do vote in every election. And no, I don't accept that there are only two choices. The third party will never win if everyone believes that there are only two options. So I vote according to those beliefs, and vote for my preference. If I had to choose between the two parties, I would have voted for Harris. I think she is much more reasonable and respectful of democracy.
