Bad things about Trump administration

Trying to keep a running list of things I disapprove of in the Trump administration.  If anything is omitted, it's not necessarily because I agree.  It would probably be too long of a list to put on the blog.

  1. DOJ tells prosecutors to drop Eric Adams case, causing resignations of prosecutors.     Prosecutor quote: Because the law does not support a dismissal, and because I am confident that Adams has committed the crimes with which he is charged, I cannot agree to seek a dismissal driven by improper considerations
  2. Wild and vague accusations of fraud in various agencies.  I could be enthusiastic about cutting the Dept of Education and US AID, but it should be explained to Americans.  Some agencies that DOGE is investigating already has fraud detection programs like Medicare. It's pretentious to think in a matter of days they can find fraud better than these programs.
  3. At a high level, I agree with federal workforce cuts, because by definition it will cause pain to people who lose their jobs, or cause interruption in services.  And federal cuts have to get done.  The pain caused shouldn't be a reason to not do it.   But indiscriminately letting go of new employees, doesn't seem to be the right way to go about it.  I know at my company, we have spent hours interviewing people, trying to find them, and hiring them.  And it would be rough to have that cancelled out. Plus, the new hire is really needed.  It would be smarter to ask each agency to let go of their low performers or people who aren't as needed who are paid a lot.  This quote from the article is expanding on what I am trying to communicate:  “Baby Boomers are retiring right and left, so actually the people you want to keep are probably most of the people who are right now on probation,” said Kamarck, ... “They’re younger and presumably have better skills, and that’s who you want.”

This quote from Federal News Network also agrees with my opinion:National President Randy Erwin in a statement. “In reality, laying off thousands of important federal workers is inefficient and cruel. It is a tremendous task to hire and retain a skilled civil service, and indiscriminately dismissing qualified workers is an incredible waste of time and money.

  4. Tariffs - I've been hearing bad things about this from experts.  I have haven't heard any economic expert say that the tariffs are a good idea.   I think the experts are probably right, and not the uneducated opinion of Trump.
  5. Executive orders.  I've  been negative about executive orders going back to the Obama Administration.  In my first post about not voting for Trump, I listed my #3 reason as "Using emergency declaration to build a border wall." Now after the first couple weeks of Trump's second term, that border wall declaration sounds really minor.   I'm skeptical that the Founding Fathers imagined this level of executive power - that's why they built checks and balances.   On the other hand, I actually am in favor of executive power, when the executive branch created the bureaucracy in the first place.  For example, if the executive branch created the Department of Education on its own (I haven't checked those facts), then the President should be able to tear it down without congressional approval. On the other hand, if Congress created a pork bill to send money to various places, then my belief is that the Executive branch does not have the power to take that away with an executive order.  However, I am not a Constitutional scholar.
  6. Pardoning Jan 6 invaders of the Capitol Building
  7. Pardoning Pete Rose.  First of all, he is no longer alive.  Second, he didn't commit crimes that require any pardoning.  Third, MLB officials closest to the situation determined that he should remain banned from baseball and the Hall of Fame, after reviewing many times.
