New music that I heard
I haven't been listening to too much music lately. I did hear this Beach Boys song for the first time. "Sail on, Sailor", from 1973. I thought it was a surprising style from the Beach Boys.
Here are few things that happened.
New movie recap
Onward (2020)
We watched this as a family. It was a really good movie in my opinion. PLOT SPOILERS. The part I disliked the most was when they reached the end of their journey, and ended up at their high school. I felt like if there was an undiscovered secret path, it would be somewhere remote. Also, the younger character keeps blaming himself falsely for what is happening, but the script never "corrects" him or makes him realize it wasn't his fault. 7/10 stars
The Martian (2015)
This was a good adaptation of the book. It was interesting, we had a two week gap in between when we watched the first half, and the second half. It's still busy to be a parent, at bed time especially! The special effects were very good. I wouldn't call this a must see movie though. 7/10 stars
Book recap
I read just three books in October
I read just three books in October
I survived the Attack of the Grizzlies, 1967 (I Survived #17)
Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, by Judi Barrett
I finished reading PowerShell in Action, by Bruce Payette and Richard Siddaway. It was over 800 pages, and I enjoyed reading it out loud to the kids, and having them hate that. I'm glad I read it, but my brain could only take in so much. Overall, it was good to be exposed to all of the capabilities of PowerShell, then I can hopefully use them in my database automation soon.
My Music Playing
I took a long break from the Piano With Jonny piano lessons. When I went to quit, they offered a video only subscription for less than $15/month rather than $40/month, so I went with that.
Good/bad moment
Good moments
-Went for a walk as a family at Cave Springs Park in
Raytown. I got really disoriented about
where the trails went, but we had a great time.
-I spent a lot of time doing a workout called Ten Rounds. It was a 30-40 minute workout, five days per week. My wife participated as well. The truth is, she picked it out, and I am more of the follower.
-Dad helped me work on the deck and replace or repair some boards that were bent or broken. Now the deck can finally get stained when it gets warmer.
Negative moments
-I bought two bags of miniature Reese's cups, hoping to save money. I would have bought one bag, but there was a discount for buying two. I would eat around 4 per day, and it would replace paying $1 at the vending machines. The problem was I could almost not stop eating them, so I ended up spending more, and eating a lot more sugar. So I made it through the bags, and decided not to do that again.
Parenting moments
Parenting moments
Our older daughter continued her refusal to receive dental care, even when offered laughing gas and intravenous anesthesia.
Work moments
I've honestly been feeling really worn out from work. There are endless things to do. That is better than not having enough to do, but it can feel overwhelming at times.
TV/YouTube recap
I've been watching YouTube videos about growing grass, refinances, buying used cars...not much to speak about! For TV, I watched some playoff baseball.
